Communication and Care

We all know the importance of good communication and proper aftercare — but what does that actually look like? How do we know when we’ve negotiated thoroughly enough? What if our partner is shy about sharing? How can we take care of ourselves after especially intense scenes? March classes at Get Licked! offer serious tools for practicing consent, communication, and aftercare like a pro. They’re great for people who:

  • sometimes struggle to voice their needs before or after play — or aren’t sure how much to say in advance vs. leave open-ended

  • want deeper, easier communication with partners about what they want and how to get there

  • play solo, long-distance, or with new partners, and want to be able to meet their own needs post-scene

  • experience strong, even overwhelming emotions during or after play, and want tools to communicate and move through them more easily

These four classes work great together, but each one is designed to be useful without prior experience or information from other classes.

Negotiation for Kinksters

Sunday Mar 9 at 7–9pm ET / 4–6pm PT

Pretty much every Kink 101 teaches us that consent and negotiation are mandatory steps before a scene — but the tools we learn fall short when it comes to real-world experiences. Can mentally ill players do “safe, sane, consensual” BDSM? What does “risk-aware” kink actually look like? What if our feelings change mid-scene? Whose responsibility is it if something goes wrong and a safeword fails?

This class offers a more nuanced, useful dive into consent and negotiation, designed to make your play (and the lead-up to it) safer, hotter, and more joyful for everyone involved. We’ll begin by exploring consent as an ongoing practice (not a step!), learn and practice an easy-to-remember module for negotiating scenes with long-term partners or total strangers, and discuss how to respond and repair when mistakes happen or something goes wrong.

Aftercare: Solo Edition

Sunday Mar 16 at 7–9pm ET / 4–6pm PT

Most of us learn aftercare as something you do with a partner: First you share an intense experience, then you take care of each other. Often, however, our partner can’t fill that need: They’re late for work, they need alone time, they have another play date, they’re a hundred miles away, what you want isn’t something they can do — or you’ve been playing solo, and a partner isn’t in the picture at all.

Whatever the reason, learning solo aftercare can be a game-changer. This class offers tools and exercises for feeling and naming our aftercare needs, experimenting with different techniques, finding a routine that works, and improving aftercare communication with partners and others who need to know.

Dealing with Drop

Sunday Mar 23 at 7–9pm ET / 4–6pm PT

You planned it, consented to it, and loved every second of it while it was happening — but a day or two later, you’re feeling irritable, anxious, and convinced your partner hates you. You’re not a freak; you’re just experiencing “drop.”

Although drop is common, it’s not universal, and it doesn’t have to suck. We’ll explore why, when, and how we experience drop; learn techniques for moving through intense drop in the moment; and begin work on a care plan to make drop less jarring and overwhelming, and more predictable and manageable, over time.

Guest Class: Body Work for Recovery with Kyng

Sunday Mar 30 at 7–9pm ET / 4–6pm PT

Get Licked! welcomes guest instructor Kyng (they/them) for a class on body work. Kyng is a licensed massage therapist, acupuncturist, and herbalist whose Hudson Valley practice, Great Embrace Acupuncture, offers comprehensive healing work and serves many patients in the kink community. Kyng will share meridian acupressure techniques from East Asian medicine that you can use for aftercare and self-care, especially for moving through fatigue, impact, and emotions. You’ll have the opportunity to practice along with Kyng’s demonstrations during class time and ask questions as we go.

Registration is closed. Stay tuned for new classes and recordings by joining the newsletter here.

What to Expect:

All virtual classes are live on Zoom. You’ll receive everything you need via email as soon as you register. Most are two hours long, including time for Q&A. Can’t make the class time? Classes will be recorded, so if you can’t attend live, you can still get all the info, as long as you register before the class starts. I hope to offer recorded classes a la carte at some point, but they’re not available yet!

Get Licked! is for everyone: queer, straight, trans, cis, binary, non, monogamous, polyamorous, kinky, vanilla, and all other folks are welcome. Be kind to each other and help each other learn. We are here in community.

Many classes include activities to help you grasp material and build skills. Participation is encouraged, but never required. Listen to your body, and do what feels good for you.
